Juneteenth

Juneteenth, is a celebration of Black joy, culture, history, and resistence. It occurs annually on June 19th and commemorates the liberation of enslaved Black people in Texas in 1865. Celebrations are happening across the US both in person and digitally this year.

Check out this list of celebrations you can attend in Ohio compiled by our friends at NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio. Here are a few national events going on! We encourage non-Black allies to take this moment to give reparations to Black-led organizations and Black people as well as continue to learn more about the history of the holiday and taking time to self-reflect how we can do and be better. This is also an opportunity for our Black siblings to find joy and reconnect with their own mental health. There are some incredible resources and events dedicated to holding space for healing today and every day going forward. Today we continue to celebrate, dream of, and plan for Black liberation for all.

Let us know how you’re celebrating today!
