2021: We're Building
In Ohio, women of color continue to be the most reliable voting bloc and the most effective leaders expanding the electorate, yet investment in their work has fallen short. For too long, resources have been poured into suburban and white-led efforts to win over gerrymandered districts. Meanwhile, the backbone and base democracy—Black, AAPi, & Latinx voters—continue to be dismissed.
We can no longer rely on one-dimensional thought leaders instead of logical, multi-layered power-building strategies. Ohio constituents are not a monolith, and our changing demographics are reflective of America. That's why we're expanding our membership in 2021 with a goal of recruiting 150 new members, particularly in Southwest and Northeast Ohio. We must lead by our values and invest in base building opportunities, centering women of color, particularly Black women, to engage the constituency of people of color, including young folks, to reflect the rest of swing and purple states.
We are actively building this base by creating trust and awareness around these three pillars: Reproductive Justice, Power Building & Education, Arts, Culture and Community Care. Through direct service programming, we provide space for the development of deeper relationships with Black womxn and femmes for the Cooperative, to be more reflective of those engaging in transformative movement work across the state of Ohio.
Stay tuned to learn more about our pathways of engagement through our upcoming Do The Work campaign!
