#GivingTuesdayNow

Giving Tuesday is a day of radical giving, typically occurring at the end of the year to support nonprofit organizations as we close out our year. This year, however, things are different. We are living in a global pandemic that has changed everything.

COVID Prison Protest

On Friday April 24th, a group of over 70 vehicles made their way from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections to the Ohio Statehouse to bring attention to the dangerous conditions of prisons and jails in our state. As of April 23rd, 80% of Marion Correctional Institute inmates tested positive for COVID-19. We were proud to be a part of this protest and demand the governor released 20,000 incarcerated people by May and save countless precious lives.

Women's History Month

This Women’s History Month, we’re highlighting some of the amazing Ohioan women who have built our state and our country. These women have a link to Ohio, whether for life or just a few years but lived on the ground we are fighting for today. Which names do you recognize? Are any of them completely new to you? History has not been favorable to women and femmes; often erasing our presence and impact entirely-- particularly women and femme of color.

Action Against Racism

Seeing the recent rise in anti-Chinese and anti-Asian racism, I’m having flashbacks to my childhood. I grew up in Ohio in predominantly white communities and for so many years, I felt deep shame and internalized racism about my eyes, my face, my family, and my heritage. Stories about people of color were mostly absent from media and history class. Random taunts about our race hurled at us while walking down High Street after class. It’s terrifying to imagine all the bullying and harassment children have faced since fear about the coronavirus first began spreading in January, and the racism they will continue to face when returning back to their schools.
